Can government and business share a cyber defence strategy?

26/3/2014

I'm looking at the way in which governments are harnessing the experience of businesses to protect their mutual interests from cyber threats for an article in the FT in April*

I want to talk to anyone who has joined, or might consider joining, the cyber reserve forces that the UK is setting up, both within the military and as part of the new National Crime Agency (NCA).

I will also be reviewing progress on t
he UK's Cyber Information Sharing Partnership (CISP). So any business that is participating in CISP should get in touch.

As ever with the FT, I'm very keen to get input from international sources. If you are involved in any work to fuse business resources with national cyber protection I'd like to hear from you.

I hope to conclude all interviews on this story by close of play on Friday 11 April.

*FT Connected Business April 2014. Can Business and Governments Work Better in Tackling Cybercrime? Collaboration has often been limited and slow. Yet the US is experimenting with recruiting “cyber reservists” from the IT industry to help fight cyber criminals, and the UK is looking at a way that businesses can share information with the government on cyberattacks without having to go through the police.

What's it like being behind the wheel of a data dashboard?

2/3/2014

I'm writing a piece for the March 26 edition of the Financial Times Connected Business report looking at data dashboards*.

The overall theme of the
report is big data and analytics. My article will be about the experience of using a dashboard to convey masses of information in a palatable form. I want to explain by real example how a dashboard can allow CEOs to take rapid, sound decisions.

I really do not want to hear from tech companies talking about how they use this kind of software. It's the words of their customers that I'm after. I am open to opinions from people other than CEOs who think they are better qualified to sit at a screen and read the dashboard.

As ever the object of the exercise is to give readers an impression of how technology is being used in the real world today, not how suppliers claim it will work in the future.

I want to conclude interviews by close of play on Wednesday 12 March and I'm keen to talk to anyone who has turned the idea of a data dashboard to the advantage of a business anywhere in the world.

*What are the best data dashboards for CEOs? What should a dashboard be giving you and should it be the CEO rather than the CIO or another member of the C-suite who is looking at the business analytics dashboard?
