Writing a BBC story on big data in market research

I'm writing for the BBC on how cheap access to massive data crunching via cloud services has allowed market research to explore new territories. Assessing facial expressions and reading into the intonation of voice is now possible. But this takes up a lot of processing power and only the cloud can provide that at a realistic cost.

I'm looking for market research pioneers who have harnessed the potential of big data to learn new things about human behaviour. I want to show how they have opened their clients' eyes to customer viewpoints they never previously understood.

Please note, this is not a piece about technology products or a platform for tech industry opinions about future trends.

I only want to talk to people in market research who can flag up real, tangible examples of their achievements using this technology and exploiting the economics of the cloud.

I need to find individuals in marketing and advertising who can explain what the advent of online big data analysis has done for the quality of their customer insights.

Writing on Antique Technology for the BBC

Are you happy using old technology for your life or work? I'm writing a piece on how outdated devices still suit their owners just fine.

Examples of this might be someone using a digital device from a manufacturer such as Psion or a venerable laptop from Toshiba. I want to hear about how this technology functions today and why you are attached to it.

I'm writing this story for the BBC website with a deadline for interviews of Wednesday 13 January.

I need one to one interviews with people who can be frank and passionate about why their old device cuts the mustard in 2021.

Please note, I do not require input from anyone telling me why their contemporary tech is so much better than the old school models!

This story can be read on the BBC website, complete with adventures vintage tech items undergo courtesy of helicopters and washing machines.

Seeking comment on hypersonic technology for a BBC article

I'm looking for expert comment and practical insight into the race for hypersonic missiles and engines for an article on the BBC website.

I want to look at why hypersonics have proved so difficult so far.

I'm interested in the materials needed to protect electronics at these extreme speeds and temperatures. And I want to know whether some of the much-vaunted hypersonic weapons that Russia and China claim to have fielded actually work.

I'm aware of work being undertaken in the UK on hypersonic engines but I'd like to hear from any other company that thinks it can offer answers to the very specific problems thrown up by flight at hypersonic speeds.

There should be space within the piece for some discussion of the political and military imperatives behind this attempt to master a very challenging technology. So I'm open to thoughts and opinions on these dimensions of the hypersonic race.

I'm researching this piece up until Friday 17 July.

This story can be read on the BBC website.

Comment on Covid-19 needed for BBC article

20/5/2020

I'm writing a piece for the BBC website looking at how hi-tech security scanners may be adapted to spot individuals who display symptoms of the Covid-19 virus, such as a raised temperature.

I need insight from medical or scientific sources as to how practical this may be. Although some businesses claim to have relevant technology others have highlighted the difficulties of eliminating background temperatures or people who are hot from exercise.

Do get in touch if you can provide a short, factual interview on the practical reality of isolating potential virus carriers in a crowd. I don't need product pitches, just an interviewee who understands the medical factors.

I shouldn't need too long  for an interview. I'm just looking for a few relevant comments to illuminate the story. I want to talk to someone as soon as possible & certainly by close of play on Wednesday 27 May.

This story can be viewed on the BBC website.
